Addressing Impulse Buying After Watching Inside Out 2: A Mall Reflection

Last Thursday I went to watch Inside Out 2, side note the movie was awesome. It gave me loads of nostalgia and would totally recommend it if you liked the first one. Back to the topic most movie theaters are located inside a mall and when going to the movies one makes a little trip out of it.

However what I didn’t expect was a complete shopping frenzy.Again the thought of buying and buying and a continuation spend $70 in one day plagues my mind. The worst part is I don’t even buy stuff at the mall, just food. I was experiencing such a gluttony I spent $70 dollars on food, much of it had gone unfinished. Completely wasting it because I didn’t like it. To top it off the one outlier was a $6 dollar pen. No restraint at all.

After reflecting on that day it really reminds me of that one scene in the second Hunger Games movie, Catching Fire. Where Peeta and Katniss know how valuable and scarce food can be in their district watching the Capitols citizens’ greed flourish. They took pills so they could throw up to have more room to eat even more food. The realization I was acting as a privileged, greedy, capitol citizen hit hard.

Now I hypothesize the reason behind all this craziness is withdrawal. Suddenly in front of so many different foods despite my knowing likes and dislikes, control flew out the window. Grabbing anything that peaked my interest even with their downsides. The lack of control caused this outcome. From the abundance of every little thing I want and the supplies to have it I leaped at the opportunity.

Impulse buying sucks man.
